So Ginger has a coarse full head of hair.
So the Pin Curls and the final style came out with a little bit more volume.


However the skip wave in the back came out amazing and it was pretty close to it.

Not bad for a first attempt =)

The Tale of Two Perms....

... It is not unheard of to be at an appointment for three to five hours depending upon the service. Not to say the service is that labor intensive but there is allot of down time.


My model's before picture. I wanted to show length in this picture. You can tell her right side is longer than her left, and there is absolutely no shape.

My plan of action is a "mild" relaxer, blow dry, press, and cut.



The dry cut method definitely assisted in the final look. I did a perimeter cut with angles in the front and back (Page Boy) and short vertical layering throughout.




This gave her great shape, kept length without being too heavy, and allowed for volume even after a fresh relaxer (chemical straightening). Total Time: 4 hours

Ginger got a Basic Layer Cut and a "ColdWave" Perm

It was my first real attempt at a Full Perm Rod Set w/ Perm. I know what went wrong. I did not apply the perm properly. I was really rushed through the chemical process, forced to do the chemical even though it was the end of the day.

So what your seeing is an average perm rod set..took me about three hours to do, and an under processed chemical treatment.

I am not too pleased with the outcome...looks like a "Mall" perm. The next day I washed, blow dried, and flat ironed her straight again.

The moral of this story...rushing through any chemical process will create an environment for a bad perm.

Your favorite salon can be you worst nightmare...most clients/guests over look what we as stylist know are hazards..whether it's disease or pure laziness.

She is harsh and sometimes she is a _____. However she is telling the truth. Her blog is a treat to read. Even if you don't watch the show, reading the blog will open your eyes to what a good salon experience should be.

Many people go to bad hairdressers/stylists and salons out of freindship, habit, and laziness. Get Smart.

Meet Ginger!

Her name is Ginger.. not Sam II. What kind of name is Sam II?

She has been with me for five/six weeks now.. I have several styles with her I will share with you. Slowly but surely. Here are a few that are my faves =)

The Evil ...Roller?!?

In the war against communicable diseases... it seems the most helpful tool can be the deadliest?

I just found out my best friend in the whole world -- The Brush Roller -- can have malicious icky stuff inside the brush but also transfer bacterial/viral infections is, also illegal to use in Massachusetts.

I don't doubt this roller is in fact evil, it was too good to be true.

Will that stop me from using it ..no.

I know there is some scientific something saying what diseases can be found in a Brush Roller like ..Tinea

However I will say as a client or guest at a Salon, I would bring in my own set.

As a Beauty School student, I definitely study and read about things that even recalling make my skin itch.

Sanitation and sterilization should not begin and end with the Cosmetology State Board visit to your salon. Next time you visit your Beauty or Nail Salon, take a look around...

Did that comb come off the last clients head to yours or from the Barbicide (blue liquid) Jar? Did that nail file and metal torture device come from pedicure to pedicure to your fingers?

Two Presentations - September 09 Work Folder

Here is my best representation of a celebrity mugshot "Before" picture... hee hee

This model is 4 weeks post relaxer. The goal is a smooth tight curl framing the face without too much height.

The models hair grows fast, the line of indentation between the new growth and relaxed hair is delicate.

I accomplished a Basic Roller Set (with Brush Rollers). The brush rollers helped immensely with keeping the curl tight as well as blending the new growth.


After 45 minutes under the dryer, I brushed out each curl with a nylon brush and finger combed the curls forward. Make up was a basic foundation application, groomed brow, and classic red lip.


This model has waist length curl resistant hair. I was extremely excited to be working with her length, and so I did a full set of barrel pin curls.

I know the watermarks are a pain but needed...



I used Ampro "Purple Rain" Styling Gel on almost dry hair. Drying time was 4 hours airdry.

The curls came out amazing! As you can see the model was happy as well...The curls were shiny and soft. Her waist length hair was dancing on her shoulders. It was marvelous without looking to child like of a style.
